Good News for Students
In a welcome move, the Medical Council of India (MCI) reduced the intensive 54 months course duration of general medicine degree MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine & Surgery) to 50 months. The motive is to enable young graduate physicians competent enough to meet the patient’s needs.
The amendment has met with its unfair share of criticism but it is heartening to see a reduction of mere 4 months which on the outset doesn’t seem significant yet would render 4 extra months of practical training for the physicians in the making and expedited intakes.
This amendment is sure-fire going to transform MBBS into a much more competent and productive degree.
The amended medical curriculum would allow students to get clinical practices from the first year itself equipping them with much more rigorous experience by the time they flutter their wings outta academia.
Competency - Based Medical Education or CBME is something the Indian medical education section has long been waiting for.
Globally many countries have adopted the same with a fair amount of success. India can’t be lagging and so can’t you!
