Types of NEET Cut-offs

There are two types of NEET cut-offs for MBBS admissions. All students want to take admission in the government colleges because of their affordability. Still, their cut-offs are higher than those of private colleges; private colleges charge higher fees, but their cut-offs are lower.

For NEET, there are two main cut-offs:

  • Admission Cut-off
  • Qualifying Cut-off

These cut-offs play an important role during your admission process, so it’s best to understand what these cut-offs mean.

Admission Cut-off

The admission cut-off is the minimum score you need to get admission to a good college. Different colleges have their own NEET cut-offs for admission. Normally, the cut-off depends on the number of seats available, the number of students applying and the difficulty of the exam.

Qualifying Cut-off

The qualifying cut-off is set by the NTA (National Testing Agency). NTA is a government agency that conducts NEET examinations and counselling sessions. The qualifying cut-off is the minimum passing score every student needs in the NEET examination to qualify for medical colleges and counselling sessions. If the student fails to score the minimum cut-off, the candidate is not considered eligible for the NEET counselling sessions.

NEET Reservation Cut-Off

The number of students who apply for the NEET examination increases every year. So, the cut-offs for government colleges have also changed, and keep changing every year. Knowing about the cut-off trend is useful to get an idea of the required qualifying score. Below are the expected NEET 2025 cut-offs and a year-wise reservation cut-off.

Factors Affecting the NEET Cut-off

These cut-offs may vary due to certain factors like:

  • Number of applicants: The Higher the number of applicants, means tougher the competition.
  • Difficulty level of the exam: Tough exam leads to low cut-offs and vice versa
  • Number of seats available: Fewer seats mean a higher cut-off, and more seats mean a lower cut-off
  • Reservation policies: Changes in reservation policies may lead to changes in cut-offs.
