Total MBBS Seats in India 2022 (Government & Private Colleges)

There are a limited number of seats for studying MBBS in India and thus, the competition is immense.

For candidates who wish to pursue MBBS or BDS programs, NEET entrance examination is mandatory. To secure admission to any medical college in India, be it a private or a government medical college, NEET is a mandatory exam.

The central board of secondary education conducts the NEET exam for all India MBBS seats every year.

For total MBBS seats in India, there are no other national level entrance examinations other than NEET. Admission to all the esteemed medical colleges in India including the AIIMS and JIPMER is on the basis of marks scored in the NEET.

Total Undergraduate MBBS seats in India are divided into two categories, one is 15% for all India quota and 85% for respective state counseling quota.

These 85% of respective state counselling quota is allocated to the domicile students of a particular state upon their successful completion of the eligibility criteria. Moreover, the medical aspirants qualifying in NEET cut-off percentage will only be considered in this allotment process.

In India, out of total MBBS seats, which include government medical and dental colleges have 15% seats reserved for all India quota and are filled on the basis of NEET counseling.
