Types of NEET cutoffs

Students who are planning to take admission to the MBBS course should first qualify for the NEET UG cutoff score. Different colleges have different cutoffs for admission. The more the reputed college, the higher the cutoff for admission. In general, Government medical colleges require higher scores.

Usually, there are two types of cutoffs:

  1. Qualifying cutoff
  2. Admission Cutoff

Let’s read about the different categories of cutoffs in detail.

Qualifying Cutoff

The qualifying cutoff is a predefined cutoff set by NTA, for those who don’t know, NTA is the government agency responsible for conducting the NEET examination. The qualifying cutoff is the minimum score the candidate requires to qualify for admission to the medical colleges. The candidates with a valid NEET UG cutoff are eligible for the counselling rounds. If the candidate fails to score the minimum cutoff, he/she will not be eligible to apply for the counselling round.

NTA releases the qualifying cutoff on the scorecard for the respective year. Different categories have different qualifying NEET cutoff scores. Below we have mentioned the category-wise NEET UG cutoff score required to take admission to the MBBS Course:

  • General (UR) category - 50%tile
  • General (PH) category - 45%tile
  • SC/ST/OBC - 40%tile

Admission Cutoff

Admission cutoff is the cutoff that the candidates require to get admission to any particular college. Different colleges have different NEET cutoffs for admission. Usually, the cutoff depends on the availability of seats, the number of students applying, and the college's reputation. Various factors determine the admission cutoff of different top government and private MBBS colleges of West Bengal.

  • The cutoff is different for the All India Quota and the State Quota. The cutoff for State Quota students is generally less than that of All India Quota candidates.
  • The admission cutoff mostly depends on the reputation of the college. The more reputable the colleges, the more applications they receive, and hence the admissions cutoff increases.
  • Government Medical colleges have higher cutoffs as they are much more affordable than the private colleges. Hence, more students apply to these colleges, and ultimately the admission cutoff increases.

Now, let’s learn about the year-wise cutoff for West Bengal NEET MBBS courses. So keep reading!

West Bengal MBBS colleges counselling process

Many students often get confused about how the counselling process works. While some private colleges have their own way of conducting the NEET counselling and selecting students through a merit list, most government colleges follow a common procedure. This counselling process is managed and conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC)

In this section of our blog, we’ll learn about the West Bengal MBBS counselling process in a simple and easy way, so you can understand each step clearly and feel more confident while applying.

  • The NEET counselling process typically consists of around 5 to 6 rounds. Once all the rounds are completed, the final step is to physically report to the allotted college with all the necessary documents required for verification.
  • The first step is registering for NEET counselling on the MCC website by creating your profile.
  • After that, the candidates must fill out the application form and pay the counselling fee.
  • Candidates must choose their preferred colleges and lock their choices carefully based on their interest and NEET score
  • Lately, the candidates have had to wait for the seat allotment results, which are released by MCC based on their preferences and rank.
  • Once candidates are allotted a seat, they must confirm their admission by locking their final choice, submitting their acceptance, and visiting the allotted college in person with all their necessary documents for physical verification and final admission.

NEET MBBS Physical Reporting Procedure

After you are done with the MBBS counselling procedure, the next step towards getting your dream MBBS college is the physical reporting. Once you have locked your preferred college for admission, you need to visit the institute for physical verification of the documents and the completion of admission formalities, which involve document submission, fee submission, hostel admission and other formalities. If any candidate wants to apply for hostel accommodation, this is when the college gives the hostel form, and you can apply for hostel accommodation as per your preference.

While going for physical verification, it is important to keep all the documents ready so as to avoid any last-minute problems, as failing to submit any document might lead to seat cancellation. Below is the list of documents that all the candidates need to submit for the completion of the MBBS admission physical reporting procedure.

  • NEET examination admit card
  • NEET examination scorecard
  • High School and Intermediate marksheet
  • Class 10th and 12th examination passing certificates
  • Birth Certificate
  • Category Certificate (for candidates who are eligible)
  • PwD Certificate
  • Domicile Certificate
  • Passport-size photographs
  • Valid government-issued ID proof like Aadhar Card, PAN Card, Voter ID, etc.)

There are some documents other than this to be presented by NRI candidates. Below is the list of documents given:
