The governing body which conducts counselling for Medical/Dental is WBMCC – West Bengal Medical Counselling Committee. In West Bengal, there are 18 Government and 5 private medical colleges, which have seats 2550 and 700 respectively. The West Bengal University of Health Sciences, Kolkata administers the admission in the state medical and dental colleges of West Bengal.
For 85% of the state Govt. seats and 100% private seats, the counselling is organized. There were three rounds of counselling, 1st round, 2nd round and mop up round that is Spot round or physical round. For Govt. seats, students having domicile of West Bengal are only eligible. Fees will vary for domicile and non-domicile students however Private is open for all.
In 2019, Physical verification of documents was conducted and it is going to be the same in 2020.
As per ‘Select Your University’ studies, In West Bengal, Kolkata seems to be high on demand, whereas cut off for Government seats were at moderate level. In Round 1, the cut off under state quota Govt. seats for the General category was 32549 whereas in Round 2 it was 39200
The cut off under AIQ is quite higher than the state, and hence those who are looking for Government seats in WB should try through state quota.
For non-domicile students taking Private medical seats the Cut off was 39527 in Round 1 and it was 45464 in Round 2. Fees for other state students are on the higher side. Also there was a bond applicable to the students.
