MBBS Admission In Punjab: Step-by-Step Guide 2026

The table shows the steps that are required to get into an MBBS course in Punjab. The following details provided for each step can help you in completing the enrollment process within the time available:

Step 1: Submission of application form and fees

To submit the application form, you must first clear the NEET exam. Provided that you have cleared the exam, you must go to the official website for Punjab MBBS admission. You will find the form there, and it will require you to enter details related to your academics, personal details, and your NEET score, among others. An application number and password will be generated at the end of this process, which you will require later.  You will also be required to upload a passport-size photograph and your signature as a part of the application process. Make sure to get a printout of the application form that you submit.

For the payment of the application fees, you can use net banking or go for e-challans. In either case, you will be able to submit the fees without any issues. Once you have submitted your application form and fees, you must wait for the merit list to be released. In case you belong to a reserved category, you can also check the reservations that are applicable in your case. Before that, you will also have to go through the document verification process.

Step 2: Document verification process

The document verification process for Punjab MBBS admissions can only be completed online. You will get notified regarding the time and place for the document verification process. Make sure to carry all the required documents such as your birth certificate, certificates from classes 10th and 12th, and domicile certificate. Apart from that, you might also have to carry a recent passport-size photograph for the document verification.

Step 3: Checking for reservations (if applicable)

In case reservations apply to you, you might want to check the percentage of seats available in your category. Otherwise, you can move on to check the merit list once it is released. Apart from SC/ST/OBC students, reservations in Punjab MBBS are also available for people from backward or border areas, wards of defence personnel, and students with achievements in sports, among others. There are varying percentages of reservations for each of the reserved categories. Moreover, there are also relaxations in cutoff marks for some of the categories in Punjab MBBS.

Step 4: Merit List

The NEET scores determine the position of students in the merit list for Punjab MBBS admissions. Depending on the NEET cutoff applicable to you based on your category, you will be able to get admission to MBBS if you achieve the minimum required marks. Thus, you will find your name in the merit list if you have achieved the cutoff marks required. Based on that, you can proceed to the counseling process.

Step 5: Counseling

The counseling process for Punjab MBBS admissions consists of four rounds. The first and second rounds are conducted to fill all the seats across private and public colleges. However, many seats might remain vacant due to various reasons after these two main rounds. In such cases, there is a third round called the mop-up round to fill the seats remaining vacant after the first two rounds. In case some seats remain vacant after the mop-up round, there is a stray vacancy round conducted to fill those seats.

MBBS Admissions in Punjab 2026: Counselling Rounds

You can get several chances to enroll in colleges across Punjab for an MBBS course. The counselling process consists of the following rounds:

  • First round

The first round features 15% seats under AIQ. This is relevant for students who want to enroll in MBBS under the national level quota. However, this round is conducted by the Medical Counseling Committee and not the Punjab Medical Council (PMC).  To enroll under the state quota, you will have to proceed to the second round conducted by the state-level committee.

  • Second round

The second round features 85% of the seats under state quota. It is conducted by the PMC, and only students with domicile certificates from Punjab are eligible for this round. Moreover, you can also opt for upgrading to a better college in case you get a seat in this round or the previous one. To do that, you will need to accept the option to upgrade your seat.

  • Mop-up round

In case you failed to secure a seat in the previous rounds, you must apply for the mop-up round. You must note that you need to go through a separate registration process for this round. The mop-up round can help you get seats under SQ as well as AIQ.

  • Stray vacancy round

In case you do not hold a seat yet, you will have to move on to the stray vacancy round. This is the last round for the allotment of seats. Students who have a seat cannot register for this round, unlike in the case of the mop-up round.

State Quota Policies in Punjab related to MBBS

The state quota (SQ) policies related to MBBS courses in Punjab are an important aspect that you must consider while applying for MBBS courses in Punjab. Here are some of the key policies regarding state quotas by the Punjab Government:

Eligibility for state quota

The eligibility for the state quota will be based on the state from which you have a domicile certificate. In other words, you need to have a domicile certificate of Punjab if you want to enroll in an MBBS course under state quota. Students from all other states will not be able to apply for colleges under SQ.

Percentage of seats under state quota

85% of the seats in the state for MBBS courses are reserved for SQ. That means you will be eligible to apply for these seats if you have a domicile certificate from Punjab. In case you are from another state, you will have to apply under the All India Quota (AIQ). Thus, while most of the seats are reserved under SQ, there are seats under AIQ as well.

Conclusion

Admissions to Punjab MBBS are based mainly on your NEET score and domicile certificate. With a valid scorecard, you should be able to register for admissions while being a domicile in Punjab. Apart from that, you also have the option to go for AIQ, which does not require domicile certificates. Hopefully, this blog has been helpful to you in understanding the steps to get admission to an MBBS course in Punjab.
