NTA Seeks AICTE Support to Identify Suitable Exam Centres

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has approached the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to assess the infrastructure available in government schools and colleges that could be utilised or developed as examination centres for computer-based tests. The initiative is aimed at identifying institutions with adequate facilities to support the smooth conduct of upcoming national-level entrance examinations.

Following the request, AICTE has contacted the heads of state-run, AICTE-approved higher education institutions to assess their available infrastructure. The institutions include engineering colleges, polytechnic institutes, universities and other government-run technical and management institutes approved by AICTE. According to a senior NTA official, CBT centres need to meet strict infrastructure requirements and therefore cannot simply be outsourced to small private operators. AICTE's network of technology-focused institutions can help identify centres equipped with the necessary facilities.

NEET UG 2027: Exam Format Shifts From PBT to CBT

The decision to conduct the NEET UG 2027 exam in computer-based test (CBT) mode is part of broader efforts to reform and modernise the examination system. The National Testing Agency (NTA) already conducts several major national-level entrance examinations, including the CAT, in CBT mode. Unlike the traditional OMR-based format, students appearing for NEET UG 2027 will answer questions digitally on a computer at their allotted examination centres, making it important for students to familiarise themselves with the new format.

The shift to CBT comes amid efforts to strengthen the fairness, transparency and accuracy of the NEET examination process. Following the controversies surrounding the NEET UG 2026 examination, the move is expected to help minimise errors and improve the overall management of the test. The transition will also require students to become comfortable with computer-based navigation, answering, and reviewing questions before appearing for the exam.

NEET UG 2027: What the CBT Shift Means for Aspirants

Students preparing for the NEET UG 2027 exam should start familiarising themselves with the computer-based test (CBT) format at the earliest. As the NTA is currently identifying and developing suitable examination centres, students will have to wait for the final list of NEET exam centres. The process of selecting a preferred exam city is expected to remain part of the application process, as in previous years. However, the final centre allotment will depend on administrative, technical and logistical feasibility.

To accommodate the large number of students appearing for NEET UG every year, the NTA has already begun making arrangements and establishing a network of designated CBT centres. Students will be informed once the final NEET UG 2027 exam centre list is released. They are advised to regularly check official NTA updates for details regarding centre selection and allotment.
