Will NEET 2026 be conducted online?

The Ministry of Education is presently working on an in-depth data analysis if the NEET 2026 can be conducted online. This involves looking at the required infrastructure for computer-based exams and ways of its impact on the students from different locations and economic situations. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare takes the final call on whether the NEET 2026 be held online or not.

NEET 2026 exam mode: Analysis by Ministry of Education

The Ministry is collecting insights from other entrance examinations such as JEE and CUET UG who have successfully moved to the CBT mode. JEE Main, which attracts about 12.5 lakh aspirants in its first session as well as 10 lakh in second, is an example to understand the ways to implement CBT in an exam with a higher candidate pool.

Additionally, the CUET UG exam was conducted in the online mode and observed the participation of about 11 lakh candidates. This analysis helps in knowing the ways by which various student groups perform in computer-based exams as compared to the traditional pen-and-paper mode exams. The government prioritizes the fact that the shift towards online mode does not create a difficulty for those students who come from remote or rural areas as they might have less exposure to the computer-based exams or might be adapted towards the online mode in a slow manner.
