Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is a central government distance learning university. It was established in 1985 with its headquarters in New Delhi. The university is recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC), Distance Education Bureau (DEB), and other authorized bodies. It has also received an A++ grade accreditation from the NAAC. As per the NIRF range report 2025, IGNOU ranking is 1st in the Open University category.

IGNOU courses are offered at UG, PG, diploma, certification, and doctoral levels. There are more than 300 courses available. The most popular courses offered at the university are BCom, BCA, MCA, MBA, PGDCA, etc. IGNOU programs are offered in both semester-wise and year-wise formats, depending on the course. Admission to IGNOU Delhi is generally based on merit. There is direct admission to most of the programs. The IGNOU admissions are offered twice a year in January and July.

IGNOU Admission 2026

IGNOU admission 2026 is based on merit. For undergraduate courses, students must pass 10+2 from a recognized board in relevant subjects. For postgraduate courses, a bachelor’s degree is required. The IGNOU eligibility criteria vary as per the course:

  • For UG Programs: 10+2 from a recognized board is required with a minimum of 50% marks (45% for reserved categories) 
  • For PG Programs: A bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized university is mandatory.

Most of the IGNOU programs do not require entrance exams. The institute mostly provides direct admissions based on merit. However, some programs ask for entrance exam scores.

IGNOU Exam Form 2026

The IGNOU Exam Form 2026 is the online application that students must submit to appear in the Term-End Examinations (TEE) conducted by Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). These exams are held twice a year:

  • June TEE session
  • December TEE session
