At JKK Muniraja Medical Research Foundation College of Occupational Therapy, the Department of Occupational Therapy came into existence in the year 1998 under the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. The Occupational Therapy Education Programme provides a 4+1/2 year full-time undergraduate degree affiliated to The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai.
In September 2008, the department extended its academic coverage with the introduction of a two-year full-time Master's programme in different specialties. The integrated approach of the institute is one of its most peculiar moments as students not only learn academically but also gain experience of the most professional clinical practice; thus, being on par with the national and international demands in healthcare.
The All India Occupational Therapist Association (AIOTA), which governs the occupation nationally, has approved the academic programs, and in 2008, these programs were recognized by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT), the apex international body in the field. Nowadays, the Occupational Therapy Centre is considered to be one of the best places of training in India. The fee structure is about ₹ 3,20,000 and ₹ 2,00,000 for undergraduate programmes and postgraduate programmes, respectively.
