Uttarakhand Open University, also known as UOU, is one of the most famous open universities at state level that is located in the Uttarakhand city of Haldwani. The Uttarakhand government has established this institution in the year 2005 to provide students a highly quality education through the open and online learning programs.

The major objective of Uttarakhand Open University is to assist students not able to complete normal classes i.e. housewives, working adults and students staying in remote locations. This university also allows anybody to learn at his convenience since this university has several study centers that are scattered throughout the state.

UOU is a recognized open university offering undergraduate course, graduate course, diploma and certificate course in Uttarakhand. These courses focus on subjects such as the arts, sciences, commerce, management, education, computer science and others.

  • Qualification: Must have passed 12th from any recognized board from any stream (Arts, Commerce, Science).

B. Com

  • Qualification: Must have passed 12th class from a recognized board from Commerce stream, but others can also apply.

BCA

  • Qualifications: 12th pass from any stream (Mathematics is not necessary). Students interested in computers can apply.

MBA

  • Qualification: Must have passed Graduation in any discipline (50% marks for general category).
  • Admission is usually on merit or entrance examination (UOU based).

M.Com

  • Qualification: Must have passed B.Com / BBA / any equivalent commerce degree. 
  • Must have minimum 45%-50% marks.

B.Ed

  • Qualification: It is mandatory to have a bachelor's or master's degree (in any discipline). 
  • Also, there should be at least 50% marks (GEN) and 45% (OBC/SC/ST). 
  • Admission is based on the entrance test.

M.Sc

  • Qualification: Must have passed B.Sc or equivalent graduate degree in relevant subject. 
  • Available in subjects like Mathematics, Environmental Science etc.

MCA

  • Qualification: BCA, B.Sc (Computer Science), B.Tech, or Graduation in any discipline + Basic knowledge of Computer.

Central Scholarship

  • (SC/ST/OBC/Divyang) SC, ST, OBC and Disabled (PwD) category students who are enrolled in UOU can apply for the financial year 2025-26 through the National Scholarship Portal (National e-Scholarship Portal – Scholarships.gov.in).
  • The application date for these schemes starts from 15 June 2025 to 30 September 2025. 
  • Applicants must ensure that their bank account information is linked (seeded) to the Aadhar card, so that the scholarship amount can be sent directly to the account.

Department resubmission

  • Students who applied for Central Scholarship in the financial and whose application was rejected at the institute level or district level can resubmit during the two-day period of temporary re-opening of the Scholarship Portal (NSP).
  • After the closure of the portal, if any error or problem occurs, it will be the sole responsibility of the student.

Post-Matric and Section 12 Scholarships (State/National Level)

The following scholarships are also available for SC/ST/OBC/PWD students of UOU:

  • ₹10,000 per year or undergraduate (UG) students 
  • ₹12,000 per year for Postgraduate (PG) students

UGC PG Merit Scholarship

  • This scholarship is for students who have secured first or second position in Undergraduate (UG) program and are now taking admission in full-time Masters (PG) degree.
  • Eligible students can receive the scholarship at the rate of ₹3,100 per month for two years. 
  • This scheme can also be taken along with other scholarships, that is, there is no restriction on it.
