Overview

The ICAR AIEEA PG is a national competitive exam for entry into postgraduate programs (Master's degree) in Agriculture and Allied Sciences throughout ICAR-sanctioned Universities or institutions in India. The 2024 session had over 45,000 registrations for the PG entrance exam, which signifies its importance and its highly competitive nature, especially in areas like Agronomy, Genetics & Plant Breeding, Horticulture, Agricultural Economics, etc.

The complete application and admission work is carried out online through the NTA ICAR portal, with registrations to be done through the portal by entering candidate particulars and personal information, including educational qualifications, required documents, such as certificates, photographs, and signatures. Additionally, all candidates must also pay an application fee. After submitting the application process, the candidates will be given one last chance to rectify any misprints or errors through the portal. Lastly, the applicant will receive the admit card for the entrance examination.

The candidates' admissions are completed by merit, listing the ICAR. The final admissions take place through centralised counselling that considers, while finalising, category reservations, availability of seats, and preferences of the candidates. 74 ICAR universities are accepting AIEEA PG scores, which include the contingents as IARI (New Delhi), GBPUAT (Pantnagar), TNAU (Coimbatore), PAU (Ludhiana), and ANGRAU (Andhra Pradesh).

What is ICAR AIEEA PG?

ICAR AIEEA PG (All India Entrance Examination for Admission- Postgraduate) is a national-level entrance examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), as an annual examination for the admissions of postgraduate (Master's) degree programs in agriculture and allied sciences across accredited Indian Agricultural Universities (AUs) such as State Agricultural Universities (SAUs), ICAR-Deemed Universities, and Central Agricultural Universities.

The examination tests the candidate's knowledge of particular subjects such as agronomy, horticulture, plant breeding, soil science, entomology, etc., and is conducted in online Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode with 120 multiple-choice questions and a total of 480 marks. To be eligible and accepted for this examination program, candidates must hold at least a Bachelor's Degree in the respective discipline, with 60% marks ( 50% for SC /ST /PwD category) is acceptable. There are nearly 4,800 PG seats, which are being offered through ICAR AIEEA PG at various universities across India.

ICAR AIEEA PG 2025 Syllabus

The ICAR AIEEA PG syllabus 2025 has been developed to evaluate the subject knowledge of candidates who are pursuing postgraduate programs in agriculture and allied sciences at ICAR-accredited institutions. The syllabus varies based on the subject area chosen, but basically will include 20 major groups of subjects like Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Biotechnology, Animal Sciences, Agricultural Engineering, Forestry, Food, and more. Within each subject group, core components at the undergraduate level that I have referenced will lead into the PG components.

The exam will consist of 120 multiple-choice questions from the selected subject group. The specific questions assessed will focus on problem-solving, conceptual issues, and best applied knowledge. To prepare for the exam, candidates should refer to the undergraduate (UG) syllabus from ICAR-accredited universities with specific emphasis on the relevant topics covered in the fifth to the eighth semesters.

ICAR AIEEA PG 2025 Eligibility Criteria 

Here is a detailed description of the eligibility criteria for ICAR AIEEA (PG) 2025: 

1. Nationality & Age

  • Nationality: You must be a national of India.
  • Minimum Age: 19 years as on 31 August 2025 (born on or before 31 August 2006) with no relaxation for any category.

2. Educational Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in relevant disciplines. Below are the degrees acceptable.

  • Minimum 4-year (i.e., B.Sc. Ag., B.Tech.)
  • 5 or 6-year (i.e, B.V.Sc. & A.H.)
  • Three-year degrees may not be accepted (except for a few of those for the ICAR-Deemed Universities- IARI, IVRI, NDRI).

3. Minimum Marks

  • General / OBC-(NCL) / EWS / UPS: 60% aggregate
  • SC / ST / PwBD / Third Gender: 50%.

4. Degree Equivalence & Recognition

Equivalence of bachelor's degree(s) will be determined by the admitting university as prescribed by the UGC. Degrees from derecognised institutions or by court injunction are not eligible.

ICAR AIEEA PG 2025 Application Process 

Here are the steps for the ICAR AIEEA PG 2025 application process in detail.

1. Registration and Account Creation

Go to the official portal at exams.nta.ac.in/ICAR select "ICAR AIEEA PG & AICE JRF/SRF 2025" and then register themselves using a valid email address and mobile number, and write down the application ID and the password in case the system generates these.

2. Filling the Application Form

Log in using the system-generated credentials and fill out your application form accurately. You will need to enter your details, academic qualifications, communication details, and most importantly, your city preference for the exam. Upload scanned image of your Photograph (10-200 kb, jpg) only, signature (4-30 kb), and thumb impression (3-30 kb) as per specification.

3. Making Fee Payment

Either you can pay the application fees online via Debit/Credit card, Net-banking, or UPI via the specified bank (Canara/HDFC) gateway. Once payment is complete, a Confirmation Page is generated (please download and save). If a confirmation page was not generated after payment, you have to pay again if the payment was not successful (the transactions that are unsuccessful shall be refunded).

4. Submission and Confirmation 

  • Once all the steps have been completed: registering, filling in the form in detail, and having paid the fees, you will have one final step left. 
  • Form submission must happen in full: if this is incomplete, your form will be rejected.  
  • Please print out several copies of the confirmation page and save them. The confirmation page will be required for other application steps. 

5. Correction Window 

After submission, there will be a window to correct limited information on June 7–9, 2025. You can only edit selected fields, and there is no option to edit offline. 

6. Final Steps 

There will be no need to send or deliver any document; it all happens online. Before starting, make sure that you have the dimensions of the Aadhaar (or other government ID), photo, and signature files handy.

ICAR AIEEA PG 2025 Answer Key 

The ICAR AIEEA 2025 results are expectedly to be published in the second week of August 2025. The ICAR AIEEA 2025 final answer key will be published for students who applied for postgraduation courses on its official site. The provisional answer key of ICAR AIEEA PG 2025 will be posted in the first week of August 2025 on the official site for contestants together with the ICAR AICE JRF/SRF Answer Key 2025.


ICAR AIEEA PG 2025 Counselling

The ICAR AIEEA PG 2025 counselling will be fully online and hosted by ICAR and conducted by ICAR’s consortia, NTA (National Testing Agency). 

  • For qualified candidates, registration will take place in August 2025, following the release of the results and answer keys. 
  • Once candidates are registered and after the choice filling period is closed, ICAR will allot candidates based on their merit rank and preferences. 
  • After the allotment, a provisional admission letter could be downloaded, and candidates would need to upload documentation (JPEG) to verify the candidate's documentation via an online university system for documentation verifications.
  • After the candidates' documentation is verified by the university, the candidates will need to accept the seat acceptance fee (generally ₹10,000 - may be different at other universities).

If you would like to participate, you need to complete an online registration, pay a one-time, non-refundable action fee (worth ₹500-₹2000 - most stated as ₹500, a few indicated as high as ₹2000), and identify your courses and institutions of registration.

ICAR PG cutoff marks are set by each university participating, based on exam difficulty, number of seats, and number of applicants, after the results. The expected qualifying marks are 50% for General / OBC, and 40% for SC / ST / PwD candidates. The actual final category-wise opening and closing ranks would be announced during counselling just after the results are available in mid-July, followed by seat allotment.
