Students are required to fulfil the TIFR GS 2026 eligibility criteria to participate in the exam. The eligibility criteria are different for each subject; students need to fulfil the requirements to be eligible for the exam.

Eligibility Criteria for Biology

Here are the eligibility criteria for Biology.

For the Ph.D. Program

  • The candidate must have a master’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, or related fields.
  • The candidate must have a 5-year professional degree, such as MBBS, BDS, M.Pharma, or B.Tech degrees in a relevant field.  

For the Integrated Ph.D. Program

  • The candidate must have a master’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, or related fields.
  • The candidate must have a master’s degree in a non-biology field.

  • The candidate must have a master’s degree in MA/M.SC/M.Math/M.E./M.Tech/M.Stat. 

For the Integrated Ph.D. Program

  • The candidate must have a degree in B.Sc/BA/B.Stat/B.E./B.Tech/B.Sc/B.Math.

  • The candidate must have a master’s degree in M.Sc./M.S. in Physics or equivalent degree, duration of the program should be at least 5 years in total. 

For the Integrated Ph.D. Program

  • The candidate must have a 3-year degree in B.Sc./B.S./B.E./B.Tech/B.Chemistry/ME/M.Tech in Physics,  Engineering physics, or equivalent degree.

  • The candidate must have a 3-year degree in BSc in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Electronics, or Electrical Engineering.

General Physics, Quantum Physics, Classical Mechanics, Electricity and Magnetism, Modern Physics, Heat, Thermodynamics, and Statistical Physics, Electronics and Experimental Physics.

Chemistry

Thermodynamics, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Quantum Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Electrochemistry, Biophysics, Analytical Chemistry, Logic and statistics & mathematical methods, Spectroscopy.

Biology

The biology syllabus covers topics that have been learned in high school or undergraduate courses. No specific topics are mentioned in the syllabus; questions will come from basic science education.

Mathematics

Analysis, Algebra, Geometry/Topology, General concepts.

Computer Science

Sets and Relations, Discrete Mathematics, Graph Theory, Data Structures and Algorithms, Operating systems and concurrency, Theory of databases, Formal languages and Automata theory, Switching Theory and Digital circuits.
