What is Maharashtra NEET UG counselling round 2?

The Maharashtra NEET counselling round 2 is the second step in the process of counselling for students who want to take admission in MBBS or BDS courses in Maharashtra. 

After round 1 of counselling, students who did not get a seat or maybe not happy with the allotted college moved to round 2 of counselling. In this round, they get a chance to secure a seat and upgrade to higher preferences. This counselling process is conducted by the State CET Cell of Maharashtra.  Here are the key features of round 2.

What are the key changes in Maharashtra NEET counselling round 2?

In the second round of counselling in Maharashtra, students get a chance to secure a seat if they have not got a seat in round 1, even if they can upgrade their seat for better preferences. The counselling process is conducted by the State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell of Maharashtra, which follows an online process through the official Maharashtra NEET counselling website.

1. Addition of new seats

• There was an addition of over 600 new seats for MBBS and BDS. The seats were added to the seat matrix for fresh allotment.
• The newly added seats increased the total available seats for students in round 2.
• Most of the seats added in medical colleges in Maharashtra, a few were also added in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

• Due to the update in round 2, there was a delay in the release of the selection list.

• The candidates could resign in the form of a "resignation window" without losing their fees.
• Students who got an allotted seat in Maharashtra counselling NEET UG round 2 (AIQ) but wanted to exit without losing their security deposit were allowed to resign by 11 AM on September 16, 2024.

 5. Choice filling and locking process

• The choice filling and locking stage remained one of the most important steps in round 2.
• Candidates were required to fill in their choices of colleges and courses in order of preference from the updated list of available seats.
• Candidates were allowed to modify their choices as many times as they wanted before locking them.

1. Ensure eligibility

2. Fresh choice submission

• A candidate needs to submit new preferences for colleges and courses in round 2.
• The choices that were eliminated in round 1 will not be considered.

3. Merit-based allotment

• A candidate gets the allotted seat based on NTA NEET UG 2025 rank and the preferences they submit.
