The GRE (Graduate Record Examination) application process to undertake in 2026 is entirely online and can be done round the clock via the official ETS site. To become a candidate, you need to establish an ETS account, select the type of test (General or Subject), pick the desired date and place of exam, and pay the necessary application fee to make sure that he/she is registered. One can take the test in a test centre as a computer-based test (CBT) or as an online exam at home at the discretion of the candidate. After the registration, ETS sends a confirmation email with the admit card information.

- Step 1: All the students will have to visit the official ETS website and create an applicant profile.
- Step 2: To begin registration, students have to select the type of test, including a general test or a subject test.
- Step 3: Students have to provide a range of dates for the exam. The portal is directed to the available date slots and location.
- Step 4: Students are eligible to take the CBT (Computer-Based Test) home test or choose a test centre. In case of the test centre, select a preferred location.
- Step 5: To complete the application process, provide your original ID and pay the GRE registration fee.
- Step 6: Students will get confirmation mail and admit card details on their registered email. Download it and keep a print with you.
GRE Application Documents Required

- Passport -All candidates must have a valid passport as identity proof (mandatory). Adhar card and other Identity proofs will not be considered valid.
- ETS Account Information- All the candidates should have an ETS account, which mentions their full name, date of birth, their valid mobile number and a proper email address.
- Payment details- All the candidates must have one payment source working at the time of registration/application for the GRE, so that they can smoothly apply for the exam.
- Passport-sized photo-All the candidates should have scanned copies of their passport-sized photographs in JPEG format.
- Name change document (if applicable). If there is a case of name change in your passport from your ETS profile you must have an official name change certificate/gazette notification, or in case you have a marriage certificate for name changes due to marriage.
