The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been asked officially to investigate the alleged NEET 2026 paper leak and find out the person who leaked the NEET 2026 paper. This decision has been made after the announcement of NTA to cancel the NEET 2026 exam that was conducted on 3 May, 2026, and the concerns have been related to paper leak, transparency, and malpractice. This created a major concern among lakhs of medical candidates in India, and the students and parents are now eagerly waiting for any fresh updates.

Who leaked NEET Paper 2026?

There is an ongoing investigation into the alleged NEET UG 2026 paper leak. As per the Rajasthan Police Special Operations Group (SOG), a man named “Manish Yadav” from Jaipur has been considered as a main suspect here. As per the Indian reports, a “guess paper” that matched over 120 questions, primarily from Chemistry, had been first shared by a medical student from Churu, and the student was studying in Kerala. The paper had been reportedly passed to another person in Sikar, Rajasthan, and afterwards was circulated through WhatsApp groups such as Private Mafia and various Telegram channels. 

Authorities said that the leaked NEET 2026 paper had been allegedly sold for up to ₹5 lakh. The Rajasthan SOG has held around 13 to 15 individuals from Sikar, Jhunjhunu, as well as Dehradun in the course of the investigation. 

Additionally, the Maharashtra police on 12 May 2026, arrested a suspect in Nashik district for probing the allegations of NEET exam paper leak. After receiving a request from the Rajasthan Police on 12 May about an accused included in the NEET case, the crime branch detained the accused to transfer him to the Rajasthan Police on their arrival. The accused is from Nashik’s Nandgaon village and studies BAMS.


CBI Inquiry NEET 2026 Ordered by the Government

One of the latest developments about the possible cancellation of NEET 2026 exam is the decision of the government to transfer the investigation to the CBI.  As written in the official notice, the Government of India has passed the matter to CBI to get a detailed inquiry into the allegations linked with NEET UG 2026 question paper leak.

The CBI inquiry will engage in investigating the alleged paper leak claims, role of the individuals or organised groups being responsible for the mass-scale paper leak, malpractice during the exam process and digital evidence along with communication records for checking for any NEET 2026 exam centre-related irregularities. Confirmation has been provided by NTA for full cooperation with the investigation and providing all required materials, records and help needed by the CBI.

As per the current NTA NEET 2026 press release on 12 May, 2026, the agency has declared that it has reviewed various inputs and also findings that were shared by law enforcement agencies. Depending on these findings, the Government of India had approved the cancellation of NEET UG 2026 exam.

According to NTA, this decision has been made for maintaining transparency, fairness and credibility at the national level entrance exams. As per the authorities, the integrity of the exam process might have been compromised that led to cancel the NEET UG 2026. The NTA had clarified that a separate announcement will be done for the re NEET 2026.

Why NEET Exam Cancelled: Scam Allegations

The NEET 2026 exam had to be cancelled due to the paper leak as per the investigating agencies. Some digital evidence has been recovered confirming various questions like the questions of NEET exam had been leaked before through a guess paper before the exam was conducted. This led to an investigation by the investigating agencies for questioning various individuals and detaining them. which resulted in NTA cancelling the exam and re-conduct again.

Re-NEET 2026: What Students Need to Know

After the announcement of the cancellation of NEET 2026, a clarification has been made by the NTA that no fresh registration is required for the re-exam of the students.

  • Students do not need to register again for NEET 2026, as the existing registration data will be relevant.
  • Past exam centres of NEET UG 2026 will be carried forward.
  • The new admit card of NEET 2026 will be issued to the students for the re-exam.
  • Candidates do not have to pay any additional application fee for the re-test of NEET 2026.
