The duration of a BA course in India is 3 years. Students who have cleared the Class 12th Board Examination in the state with 50%-60% marks in any stream are eligible to take admission. English and History, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Philosophy, Geography, and Economics are amongst the most popular specializations, and in other popular specializations.
The program is structured to develop key competencies in the fields of critical thinking, communication, analysis, writing, and knowledge of society and culture. The BA 1st year fee in government colleges tends to fall between ₹ 1000 to ₹ 30,000, but in private universities it falls under ₹ 30,000 to ₹ 2,00,000. BA courses fall into two main categories BA General, which offers very wide exposure in a number of subjects, and BA Honours, which is subject-specific, in-depth study (e.g., BA English Honours).
The admission to the central and state Universities is normally based on the CUET (Common University Entrance Test), though a few private Universities either have their own system of admissions, or give admission on the basis of Class 12 marks. BA Eligibility
The eligibility criteria for pursuing the BA course in India are mentioned below-
- Educational Requirement- Passed 12th (Arts, Science, and Commerce), must have passed through a recognized board.
- Minimum marks aggregate- Most universities require a minimum marks aggregate, which is 50%to 60% in the 12th board examinations. Reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC), i.e., around 40%-45% relaxation can be provided.
- Stream Eligibility- the applicants are allowed to apply in general BA programs regardless of stream (Arts, Science, Commerce). However, some course-specific BA programs (such as BA Economics) may have required subjects (e.g., mathematics in Class 12).
- Age Limit- Upper age limit has not been stated to pursue the BA course; however, the candidate must be minimum 17 years old when he/ she apply for a BA course.
- Entrance Exams- Entrance Exams are there in some of the universities (serving as private and government universities) (e.g., CUET, IPU CET, LPU NEST), and some of the universities allow you to get in on the basis of your performance at Class 12 examinations.
