Karnataka NEET UG Counselling 2026: Eligibility Criteria

Before we jump into the counselling part and start dreaming of your medical school life, make sure that you meet the eligibility criteria. KEA has laid some rules and they do not play. So here is the plain breakdown:

Basic Eligibility

First things first, you need to tick these boxes:

  • Must be an Indian citizen (no NRI or foreign nationals here)
  • Must have cleared NEET UG 2026
  • Must have filled the UGCET 2026 application form — no form, no entry

Government Seat Eligibility

If you want to go for government seats, that is where it gets very specific

Option 1: Full Karnataka Schooling

  • Passed Class 10 + Class 12 from a Karnataka institute
  • Studied 7 years in a govt school in Karnataka

You are going to be good if you’ve basically lived and breathed Karnataka.

Option 2: Partial Schooling + Parental Backup

  • Passed Class 11 + Class 12 from a Karnataka school
  • Either Mom or Dad studied for 7 years in Karnataka

Basically your parents did the homework and you get the benefit.

Option 3: Language + Domicile Route

  • Mother tongue is Kannada / Tulu / Kodava
  • Either parent must be a domicile of Karnataka

So even if you grew up outside but still speak the language and your folks hail from Karnataka you can count yourself in. And last but not the least, these all claims need to be proofed, not just saying but showing.
