NEET UG 2025: Over 9,000 MBBS Seats Added as NMC Updates Seat Matrix. India Now Has 1.26 Lakh Medical Seats.

Giving a big boost to medical education in India, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved 9,075 new MBBS seats for the academic year 2025-26. Now India has a total of 1,26,600 MBBS seats. The number has come after many rounds of revision and excludes AIIMS seats and JIPMER seats.

The emerging trends highlight that Southern and Western states have topped the list with the maximum number of allocations.
Andhra Pradesh:
- Santhiram Medical College, Nandyal: Before- 150, After- 250 seats.
- Anna Gowri Medical College & Hospital: New approval- 150 seats.
Tamil Nadu:
- Addition of 50 MBBS seats at Takshashila Medical College, Villupuram, Maharashtra & Karnataka.
- Multiple colleges get fresh approvals.

Seat Withdrawals Amid Legal Issues
NMC also withdrew 456 seats, reiterating the action in favor of transparency and legal compliance. MBBS seats are made due to:
- Court cases
- Regulatory non-compliance
- Late in renewal and approval process
A few days ago, NBE cancelled 22 NEET PG results due to discrepancies.
MCC Counselling Round 3 Result Expected Soon
Several stretches were witnessed in MCC Counselling 2025 Round 3 schedule. The results are expected to come out on 18th October 2025. After the results, you will have to check MCC counselling results and download the seat allotment letter.
What’s the Future of Medical Education in India?
This seat increase corresponds with Union Cabinet’s Phase-III nod on Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS). As per the Indian government, the target is to add 5,023 new MBBS and 5,000 PG seats in government colleges. Enhanced funding is ₹1.5 crore per MBBS seat.
