50 seats have been reduced, NMC cites a slip-up.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has revised the seat matrix for MBBS and BDS admissions, bringing the total number of medical seats in India to 1,28,875.

The updated data corrects typos and shows a deduction of 50 seats from the earlier count of 1,28,925. The action tends to ensure an accurate seat matrix for upcoming NEET UG admissions.

A few weeks ago, over 9,000 MBBS seats were added as NMC updated the seat matrix.

What’s New in the Revised Seat Matrix?

As per the NMC, some data discrepancies were discovered during the renewal process of medical colleges. The new revision is the aftermath. The commission also clarified that 456 seats were removed due to technical issues.

Reason Behind the Revision

The NMC explained that the changes were made to resolve printing errors.
The rectification mainly focuses on:

  • Swaminarayan Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Gujarat
  • Viraat Ramayan Institute of Medical Sciences (New establishment)

“The revised number reflects removal of 456 seats due to typographical errors in institutional records,” the NMC stated.
