CBSE Class 10 Syllabus 2026 Overview
The CBSE Class X Board Syllabus is based on the Class 10 NCERT Textbooks. There are total of 6 subjects, 5 compulsory subjects and 1 optional subject in CBSE Class X Board Syllabus. The mandatory subjects are - English, Hindi, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. The Optional subject can be Painting, IT, Computer, Music, Home Science or Third Language (Sanskrit, Arabic, French, German, Kashmiri, Gujarati, etc,.)
In mathematics, the paper will be based on Number system, Algebra, Coordinate Geometry, Geometry, Mensuration and Statistics. The science question paper will consist of questions from Matter - Its Nature and Behaviour, Organization in the Living World, Motion, Force and Work and Food & Food Production.
In English the paper will be composed of Reading Skills, Writing Skills and Grammar and Language through Literature from Class X English NCERT Textbooks. The Hindi paper will be based on comprehension, grammar, creative writing and Class X Hindi NCERT Textbooks.
In social science there will be 4 sub-subjects - history, geography, polity and economics. Each sub-subject will carry 20 marks. Apart from theory there will be a map question as well in Social science.
From 2026 onwards, the CBSE Class X Board will be conducted in 2 phases, Phase 1 and Phase 2. The Phase 1 will be mandatory for all the students and Phase 2 will be for those who wishes to improve in the exams.
The Phase 1 CBSE Class X Board Exam 2026 are tentatively going to start from 17th February, 2026 while the Phase 2 tentative dates are declared for 15th May, 2026.

The CBSE Class X Board 2026 Exam pattern has 2 assessments - internal assessments and theory exams. The internal assessments weighs around 20% and the theory exam contributes to 80% marks.
