Students who are planning to give the FMGE exam in the near future are advised to be familiar with the syllabus of FMGE. The syllabus is divided into two parts: Pre & Para-Clinical Subjects and Clinical Subjects. The FMGE exam is a total of 300 marks, from which 100 marks are covered by Pre & Para Clinical Subjects and the rest by Clinical subjects. The total marks of the FMGE 2026 examination are 300, and there are 300 MCQs in the FMGE 2026 examination. The examination consists of two papers with 150 questions in each. All answers are marked out of a total of one mark, and there is no negative marking for incorrect answers. A candidate needs to get at least 150 marks out of 300 to be eligible for FMGE 2026, or 50% of the total marks.

The FMGE 2026 syllabus comprises all the major subjects covered in the MBBS program. The subjects are divided into pre-clinical, para-clinical, and clinical disciplines. Some of the subjects include Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Forensic Medicine, Community Medicine, Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Orthopedics, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Radiology, etc. Questions are theoretical in nature and clinical in application.

Students will be required to study as per the official FMGE syllabus and will not be able to get through with the Class 12 syllabus only. FMGE is a licensing examination which is followed by the MBBS curriculum and is to test medical knowledge learnt under an Undergraduate Medical Education. The test includes topics from Advanced Basic Sciences, Para-clinical and Clinical Medicine. A detailed understanding of the official FMGE syllabus enables candidates to plan their preparation for the examination properly and understand the weightage of the subjects.

The following are the important pre-clinical topics for the FMGE 2026: Gross anatomy, neuroanatomy, physiology of body systems, genetics, metabolism and biochemical pathways. For para-clinical subjects, the candidates should concentrate on Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Forensic Medicine and Community Medicine. Commonly examined topics are disease mechanisms, infectious diseases, classifications of drugs, epidemiology, preventive healthcare programs, immunology, and medico-legal. A detailed knowledge of these concepts can enhance the overall performance of the FMGE.
