IISc Bangalore has announced that the institute will offer BTech admissions through JoSAA counselling 2026. This development comes as a major change in the IISc Bangalore BTech admission process 2026. This will be implemented from this year. 


Earlier, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, used to grant BTech admission via its own independent process. But as the new route unfolds, shortlisted candidates in Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling 2026 will be selected based on their JEE Advanced ranks. Candidates must qualify JEE Advanced.


IISc Bangalore has been recently spotted in the news as it became the only Indian institute to secure a place in the top 100 in THE World University Rankings 2026. Moving towards gender parity, IISc Bangalore became the first cohort of John Hopkins Fellowship programme

IISc Bangalore BTech Admission: What Has Changed and Why It Matters?

IISc Bengaluru admission in BTech will be through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling process. The changes apply from 2026. JoSAA counselling is a standard procedure through which several leading engineering institutes in India award BTech admissions.

Taking a different direction, IISc managed its own admission system for engineering admission. Candidates had to physically report to the campus for confirmation. But this new move brings IISc in line with other top colleges in the country. Now, the admission process becomes mor centralized and simplified.


JEE Advanced 2026: Exam Date and Schedule

JEE Advanced 2026 exam is conducted by IIT Roorkee.  The JEE Advanced exam is set to be held on 17 May 2026. 

Shifts:

  • Paper 1: 9 AM to 12 PM
  • Paper 2: 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM

Once a student qualifies JEE Advanced, they become eligible for JoSAA counselling 2026. It translates to the IISc BTEch admission eligibility.

IISc Bangalore JoSAA Counselling 2026

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling 2026 is scheduled on 2 June. Through JoSAA, 127 premier engineering institutes participate in the centralised online seat allocation for admissions:

  • 23 IITs
  • 31 NITs
  • IIEST Shibpur
  • 26 IIITs
  • 47 Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs)


In 2025, 2,50,236 candidates qualified JEE Advanced.
