JEE Main Cutoff
Another very important element in the JEE Main results is the cutoff. It is used to calculate eligibility to JEE Advanced, as well as entrance to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. The JEE Main cut-off differs in various categories, so as to make sure that it is fair and there is inclusiveness. The Expected JEE Advanced 2026 Qualifying Percentile are:
Category | Qualifying Cutoff Percentile |
General (UR) | 93.1023 |
Gen-EWS | 80.3830 |
OBC-NCL | 79.4314 |
SC | 61.1527 |
ST | 47.9026 |
UR-PwD | 0.0079 |
These percentile scores are used to determine the minimum level of performance of the candidate in the JEE Main Exam 2026. The important thing is to know that a qualification in JEE Advanced does not get a student any admission in a college, but entitles the student to sit in the IIT admission process. Similarly, admission to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs is done on the basis of All India Rank (AIR), and opening of seats in the desired branch or institute.

Process of JEE Main 2026 Counselling
The counselling is another main step after understanding the results are declared, and it is handled online by JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority). The counselling arrangement is a systematic system that guarantees open reporting scheme in the errands of seat allotment through the NITs, IIITs, GFTIs and the few deemed Universities. JoSAA is a platform on which students enroll, enter their colleges and course preferences and undergo various seat allotment rounds.
- JoSAA Portal Registration - The students have to first create a user Login in the JoSAA portal using the JEE Main reference codes.
- Choice Filling and Locking - The candidates choose colleges and branches they like most and lock in those choices before the deadlines. Correctness in filling of choice would matter a lot because it determines the seating arrangement.
- Round of seat allotment - Counselling takes place in several rounds (typically 6-7 rounds, including special CSAB rounds of seats left vacant). Seats will be assigned in accordance with JEE Main rank, category, and the availability of the seats.
- Reporting/Admission Confirmation - After a seat is allotted, the candidates have to report in the institute physically or through online-based document verification and pay the admission fee in order to confirm the seat.
The whole process is modeled in such a way as to sustain its fair and transparent nature. Learners are urged to watch out for the announcements carefully and work through each process before the proposed deadlines. Absence of any step, e.g., of filling in the choice, or paying a fee, may lead to the loss of the assigned seat.
