What Happens If You Don’t Join After MCC Counselling Seat Allotment? What Happens If You Don’t Join After MCC Counselling Seat Allotment?

MCC counselling is the process to help students for MBBS, BDS and other medical admissions in India. The process is under the authority of an official body that organizes online counselling for top medical and dental colleges under the 15% All India Quota as well as for deemed and central universities.

After the NEET results are declared, eligible students choose their preferred colleges based on their NEET score, category and available seats. There are multiple rounds of  counselling.

MCC NEET UG counselling rounds

The counselling process is completed in numerous rounds:

  1. Round 1

  2. Round 2

  3. Mop-Up round

  4. Stray vacancy round

  5. Special stray vacancy round (Only for deemed universities)

What happens to vacant seats after each round?

During the NEET UG counselling process, at any stage of counselling , if any seats could not be filled for some reasons, those seats are shifted to the next round of counselling for the students. The eligible students get another chance to secure their admission through vacant seats. Here are the details of what happens to vacant seats in counselling.

  • After Round 1

A Candidate who didn’t get a seat or wants to upgrade can move to round 2. The vacant seats will be moved to Round 2

  • After Round 2

The Vacant Seats will be shifted to the mop-up round. There are no new registrations issued for the All India Quota after round 2. Students who have already registered can take part.

  • After the Mop-up round

The Vacant seats will transfer to the stray vacancy round. In this round, no new registration will take place.

What is the stray vacancy round?

During the counselling process, the stray vacancy round is the final round of the counselling process, in which students get allotment of the remaining vacant seats. Here is how the stray vacancy will work:

  • Candidates who have not registered in previous rounds or didn’t get allotment.
  • The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), will publish the list of eligible students.
  • There is no new registration in this round.
  • There is no upgradation or withdrawal in this round; the seats filled in this round are final.

What Happens If You Don’t Join After MCC Counselling Seat Allotment?

Not joining your allotted MCC seat can lead to seat cancellation, loss of deposit, and ineligibility for further rounds.

  • Round 1 or Round
If you do not join, the allotted seat gets cancelled. You are eligible for another round of counselling. If the seat is cancelled, your security deposit is usually refunded.
  • Mop-Up Round
If you don’t report to the college, you lose the seat. Your security deposit is forfeited. You will lose eligibility for the Stray Vacancy Round.
  • Stray Vacancy Round
If you don’t join after the seat allotment, the allotment is cancelled (you have lost your seat). The security deposit is not refunded. There are no extra chances —this is the last round of MCC counselling.

Conclusion

MCC counselling is the process through which NEET-qualified students get admission into MBBS, BDS, and various medical courses through an online process held in multiple rounds, like Round 1, Round 2, Mop-Up, and Stray Vacancy. If any seats remain vacant in a given round, those seat will automatically move to the next round, giving students another chance. However, if a student doesn’t join the allotted seat in later rounds like Mop-Up or Stray Vacancy, they may lose both the seat and the security deposit and are not eligible to participate in further rounds. So, it’s important to follow the counselling steps carefully to secure your admission successfully.
