Why This Matters for NEET PG Aspirants
Odisha has 1,800 MBBS seats and 615 PG seats in 24 medical disciplines. Keeping in mind the fierce competition in NEET PG Counselling and Odisha NEET PG seat matrix, this increase will significantly improve the chances of students getting a medical seat.
If the NMC nods on the expansion, this could:
- Ease competition
- Clinical specialities will get a revival
- Encourage more students to pursue postgraduate medical education in Odisha
- Student migration can be reduced

Link to Doctor Shortage in Odisha
As reported earlier by an esteemed publication, Odisha TV, the State currently has 5,800 vacant doctor posts and a serious shortage of doctors. In the upcoming years, the success of this integration will not only create a pipeline of specialist doctors but also scale up tertiary care services.
What Happens Next?
Once the medical colleges in Odisha submit the proposals, these will be forwarded to the NMC. The availability of these seats in Odisha NEET PG counselling will be decided by the approval timeline.
For NEET PG candidates, the immense pressure put by these medical admission procedures could be reduced as the state moves forward to more government college options in future.
Recent NEET PG Seat Additions and Withdrawals
The seat scenario remains mixed for NEET PG aspirants, as the states are adding new PG seats even as others report reductions.
